The Brookland Middle School achieved LEED Platinum certification due to its sustainable design by the D.C. leader in MEP/FP design, SETTY. The design included a medium sized Geothermal System with 350 Tons Vertical Loop System with 160 Wells, that are 500 Feet Deep.

Also the design by SETTY called for: Two (2) 175 tons each Water-To-Water Centrifugal Chiller and Two (2) 1,600 MBH Water-To-Water heat pump Connected to the Geothermal Well Fields Located Below the Baseball Field.

Additionally, there are Two (2) 12,000-gallon Cisterns for Collecting and Reusing Rainwater for building flush fixtures.
