Responsibility:
We are seeking a highly qualified Electrical Engineer to work in our MEP Engineering Division for our Fairfax, VA or Washington DC offices. Duties will include design of a wide range of projects including laboratories, hospitals, commercial, institutional, education buildings and transportation facilities. Candidate shall have at least a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and experience in designing systems including controls, switch gear, lighting, power systems, emergency power systems and other special systems. Other responsibilities include preparation of CAD and REVIT drawings, system design calculations, equipment selections, technical specifications, design reports, and design narratives. Candidate may be required to coordinate work with the client and engineers of other disciplines, attend meetings, prepare meeting minutes, and communicate with clients to establish their needs and discuss design issues. Experience in incorporating sustainable (LEED) design methods in buildings a plus.
Collaboration in multi-discipline project teams to develop drawings and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners.
Design and select luminaires and lighting controls systems.
Develop Performance Specification and layouts for fire alarm and other low voltage systems.
Engineering calculations, equipment sizing and selection for low, medium and high voltage systems.
Survey and evaluate existing conditions.
Perform construction administration, including conducting field inspections and subsequent inspection reports and answering RFIs.
Other tasks as needed to ensure timely and thorough support to our clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Experience in building automation systems required. This role encompasses comprehensive involvement in the Commissioning (Cx) process for new constructions, spanning from the design phase to the construction and warranty stages. Responsibilities include creating Commissioning Plans and specifications, conducting design evaluations, overseeing on-site inspections and drafting related reports, validating Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) reports, formulating and verifying functional performance test procedures, preparing final Commissioning reports, and examining project closeout documents. Additional tasks may involve commissioning for existing buildings, conducting ASHRAE Energy Audits, and providing monitoring-based commissioning services. The candidate should be adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously and proficient in using web-based Commissioning software for issue tracking in design, construction, and acceptance testing phases. Effective communication skills are essential for articulating identified issues to stakeholders such as the owner, contractor, and internal team members at SETTY. The role also requires performing quality control on project sites, specifically in supervising the installation of construction materials. Opportunities may arise to contribute to the identification of energy-saving measures. The position may involve leading smaller to medium-sized projects or handling a key segment of the Commissioning process in larger projects. Must enjoy forensic engineering.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two to five years HVAC or electrical technology degree from an accredited community college or equivalent level of knowledge attained through practical work experience in addition to the minimum experience qualifications defined above. Certification(s) from applicable organizations, such as ACG, AABC, AEE, NEBB, etc. are preferred but not required. Prefer the team member be familiar with the Cx process.
CxA certification is a plus.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Able to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience. Must be proficient in reading/understanding construction drawings and specifications and also have a basic understanding of a variety of HVAC and/or mechanical systems. Skills and abilities should include two or more of the following: Able to identify and clearly document design/construction conflicts with other trades; identify and clearly document mechanical and/or electrical construction deficiencies and derive recommended solutions from past experiences; troubleshooting of building automation temperature control systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Must work within budgets. Physical abilities include but are not limited to: lifting/carrying 20 pounds (occasionally), climbing stairs or ladders, looking up/down, negotiating construction sites while walking extensively, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
