Howard University, Harriet Tubman Quadrangle Renovation, Washington, DC
Founded in 1867, Howard University is a private research university comprising of 13 schools and colleges. The Quadrangle is named after abolitionist and political activist Harriet Tubman and severs as a primary residence halls for female freshman students.
The Harriet Tubman Quadrangle is located at the center of the campus and accommodates more than 600 residents during the summer months. The Quadrangle is a group of 5 historic residence halls on Howard University’s campus. Renovation of the Quadrangle was part of the University’s strategic plan to provide high-quality, on-campus housing for students.
The renovation focused on extensive infrastructure improvements. Individual rooms, communal restrooms and recreational/lounge spaces received upgrades, allowing the University to decrease density within these halls.
Comprising of five residence halls, namely Baldwin, Crandall, Frazier, Truth and Wheatly, the Quadrangle bedrooms are equipped for double occupancy and include an extra-long twin bed and mattress, a 3-stand dresser, study desk and individual closet space for each resident.
SETTY provided MEP/FP design and construction administration services towards renovation of the Howard University Tubman Quadrangle . This fast track project was tasked to meet critical milestones.
In order to achieve project requirements, the team modified the typical delivery model to constantly incorporate review with design and construction team members to minimize design coordination and construction phasing and delivery concerns.
