This project is transformation of the former school, located at 1300 44th Street, NE, Washington, DC into a much-needed recreation center for the Kenilworth neighborhood.

 

Kenilworth Recreation Center features Department of Parks and Recreation’s largest fitness center and one of the agency's largest multipurpose rooms. Another special feature - a new lavish kitchen teaches nutrition, cooking, and meal preparation.

Scope involves MEP/FP design towards preparation of design-build services for transformation of former Kenilworth Elementary School into a recreation center. The existing building’s refurbishment included approximately 18,000 SF of renovated space, consisting of a new lobby/lounge area, a large multi-purpose space, fitness area, boxing area, locker rooms, men’s and women’s restrooms, senior and teen activity areas, kitchen and ADA accessibility upgrades.

Also included are a new gymnasium of approximately 9,300 SF and a new pool house with outdoor pool of approximately of 3,350 SF. The project features an electric vehicle charging station, bicycle repair station, bio-retention ‘rain gardens’, a green roof and more.
